Extended finite element method for <scp>fluid?structure</scp> interaction in wave membrane blood pump

Numerical simulations of cardiac blood pump systems are integral to the optimization device design, hydraulic performance and hemocompatibility. In wave membrane pumps, propulsion arises from propagation along an oscillating immersed membrane, which generates small pockets fluid that pushed towards outlet against adverse pressure gradient. We studied Fluid–Structure Interaction between flow via three-dimensional using Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM), unfitted numerical technique avoids remeshing by a fixed mesh. Our in realistic geometry highlighted, for first time this field application, XFEM is reliable strategy handle complex industrial problems. Moreover, they showed role deformation promoting despite also simulated system at different conditions we validated results in-vitro experimental data.
